In 1982, our co-founders came to Wales from Holland with dreams of organic farming. They soon set about reviving the lost tradition of using raw milk and local ingredients to make high quality artisanal cheese. They have continued to be at the forefront of artisanal cheesemaking ever since.
In fact, Teifi Cheese are the most highly awarded cheesemakers in Britain. Their cheeses have won countless first prizes and gold medals at The Royal Welsh Show, The Nantwich Show, The British Cheese Awards and The World Cheese Awards. Our ‘Celtic Promise’ is one of only two cheeses in Britain to have been awarded the title of Supreme Champion twice at the British Cheese Awards.
In 2009 our creamy Saval won the highest accolade in British artisan raw milk cheesemaking: The James Aldridge Memorial Trophy for the Best British Raw Milk Cheese. With numerous gold medals at the World Cheese Awards and as a six times winner of the Dougal Campbell Memorial Trophy for the Best Welsh Cheese (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2011 and 2015), Caws Teifi Cheese has put Wales on the map for cheese making.
Caws Teifi Cheese is now the longest established artisan cheese maker in Wales and our co-founder John Savage-Onstwedder is regarded as the ‘Godfather’ of artisan cheesemaking in Wales. Our cheeses are sold at local farmer’s markets, at specialist artisan cheese shops and delis, and online. Our farm has its own small farm shop and by prior appointment you can take a tour of our dairy and also our distillery.
